Here it is, Friday. And not just any Friday: the final Friday of February. They're playing some baseball in Florida today and we can turn our attention to the Boys of Summer. Or, if they're like last year, the Boys of Spring. At any rate, we're changing the “S” word from what it has been all this month (either “snow” or the other “S” word, take your pick) to SPRING. Bring it on. This is Coco, but it sums up exactly how I feel at the very thought of the word, too!

Wow – it's been a heavy week of sharing here at this site, from locking up our toddler, to foot-in-mouth with a celebrity, to bullying – so I thought today we all deserve a break, and I think you're going to love it (but only if you like hearing a baby laugh, and really, who doesn't)?

Welcome to Wednesday. This is Pink Shirt Day – and I am wearing one – to raise awareness of bullying. Having been on both sides of the issue, I can relate. You've maybe heard about the girl named Susan who would wait for me at school in Alberta on winter mornings so she could rub an ice/snow mix in my face. I don't know how things turned around, but they did; I remember eventually going to the movies with her. My mom and the school had gotten involved and things ended well. But it wasn't long after that that I turned the tables and I bullied a girl younger than me.

Wow – what a show! And no, I'm not talking about the Oscars. Don't get me wrong: despite the lacklustre ratings and the fact that a lot of people were bored to tears, I'm glad I stayed up 'til 12:10 am and the final applause. The show really started to roll at 11 pm (2-1/2 hours in) and if you didn't see the Lady Gaga Sound of Music medley you are missing a real highlight. Seriously! Look for it on YouTube.
No, what I'm referring to is OUR show yesterday. But not all of it was good and I am afraid I might have really stepped in it.

And here we are again. Thanks for coming back. We returned from vacation Saturday so we could have a day at the cottage with Lauren and her little family, plus get ready for last night's Oscars. Today though, a more sombre note than all of the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. It's real life, and it hurts.

Thanks for coming by this week. I'm just posting the one journal all week (and taking a brief break from the audio journal as well) in an attempt to “disconnect” at least a little bit. I'm still active on Twitter @CHFIErin, if you're following there. And if you're not – give it a go! I'll be live tweeting the Oscars on Sunday night and it's always a good time. In the meantime, I hope you're enjoying Darryl and Tish or Julie, plus Ian, Gord and Steve.

Well, this is it for a few days. I'm going to share with you a great note I got from a CHFI listener that sums up everything good about people...and how a heart can live on. Just in time for Valentine's day.

Welcome to Wednesday. It promises to be a long, busy but rewarding one for me: I'm hosting the Ontario Disability Employment Network’s first-ever business conference – Rethinking Disabilities. It's a day-long event at the Sheraton Centre downtown and I'll no doubt come away inspired, humbled and with a few new friends. I'll keep today's journal short and sweet. One Facebook post at work that explains just why my “super power” is overthinking and why some days I could get a self-induced concussion from just shaking my head.

We may be watching the beginning of the end of a pretty brilliant media career, and it makes me sad. But mostly it makes me channel Dr. Phil and ask, “Brian Williams, what were you thinking?”

Welcome to a brand new week. I hope you can't hear how late I stayed up last night for the Grammys, but we have to experience the show to share it with you. That's okay – that's why I sleep so late and so long on weekends. And why my iPhone alarm has a very encouraging message.
It has just been in the past couple of months that I've discovered I can personalize my alarm on my iPhone. You can put a little message next to the time you've set, like 5 pm: “pick up kids” or 8 pm: “call Dad”. But a few weeks ago I personalized my morning wake up time. And here's how it looks.

What a crazy week that's been! Hard to believe it was Monday that Southern Ontario was slammed with snow, and now we're looking at more of it in the forecast this weekend. But as we're often reminded whenever we dare complain about the unending cold - the mounting snow banks and the salt that spreads from car to coat to pants to purse every time you go for a ride - well, suck it up, buttercup, it's winter. We'll survive.

I always promised I'd keep this journal for occasional glimpses behind the scenes at 98.1 CHFI and, specifically, our radio show. Well, you know that we love to surprise listeners with our “Pay it Forward” contest and, more recently, the two weeks of “Sun for Everyone” trip giveaways...but yesterday we got to surprise one of our own. And it was awesome.

First off, a big “thank you” if, like Verne, you were one of dozens who wrote yesterday to share your empathy regarding my tongue-biting, foot-swallowing weekend. We're all in the same boat, it seems, but we're also proud that our children are doing all they can to make sure their children are as safe as they can be. I love that we all share so many similarities where motherhood is concerned. Which leads me to today's journal.

Well, that was something! Most snow we've had in a day for two years. Frankly, I'm amazed we managed to squeeze in that trip to Ottawa on the weekend, even though it did mean having just an hour-and-a-half with the little coconut and his parents on Sunday. In one way, that may have been a blessing: less time to open mouth, insert foot.

Welcome to Monday and Groundhog Day. A bit of silliness that breaks up winter, I think this day was concocted to relieve the endless monotony that is our cruelest season. For Rob and me, the doldrums were punctured by a short escape to Ottawa to see our daughter, son-in-law and grand boy Coco (aka Colin). He's a little spitball these days and you can almost see the beginnings of a tooth coming in.
