Amazing. Inspiring. Funny. Sparkling. All words that can be used to perfectly describe 14-year-old Daniel Waldman, known from here on in as “Wildman”, after his visit to us for two hours on the 98.1 CHFI Morning Show.

Sometimes when you lead with your heart instead of your head, things just go right. They don't always; we've had guests back in my Rogers TV days and on radio, too, who clearly either were too intimidated by the idea of being on the airwaves, or just didn't have “it” when the mic went on.

To mangle a different quote: what if you threw a ball game and nobody came? This is a day that will long live on in Major League Baseball history. For the first time since MLB began in 1869, a game will be played before an empty stadium.

There aren’t many people I meet who make my heart race, but I confess to being totally enamoured of Lynda Carter. You know her best as TV’s Wonder Woman – and let me tell you that the years have been extremely kind to her.

Well, it was another 850 kilometres added to the odometer as Rob and I made the trip to and from Barrhaven (just outside Ottawa) this past weekend. It's hard to fight the blues on the way back to the GTA; I know there are people with longer distances from their loved ones, but there are also folks whose children and their families live just around the corner. I'm allowed to feel a little sorry for myself once in a while. And as I write this, I'm having one of those moments.

Well, here it is Friday heading into the final weekend of April. Hopefully we'll see the end of this wintry weather, and we're doing our part, Rob and I, to warm things up with another trip to Ottawa. I'm sure glad Lauren and Phil seem to welcome our visits, 'cause we can't let another week go by without seeing our little Coconut (Colin) in person.

This is Earth Day. And what a great occasion to share with you something I heard for the first time thanks to everybody's favourite astrophysicist (or mine, anyway) Neil deGrasse Tyson. In last year's mind-opening and mind-blowing series on FOX titled Cosmos, Tyson wrapped up the final episode by reading an excerpt from a book written by his mentor and hero, Dr. Carl Sagan. It has stayed with me far longer than almost anything else I've read or heard in the past year, and it seemed fitting to share it with you today.

Toronto is about to enter a new era as Police Chief Bill Blair hands over the reins after ten years in charge of our city's force.

Yesterday we learned that the new Chief is former Deputy Chief Mark Saunders, a 52-year-old who's been on the force since he was 20. As it stands, the hot issue of carding will likely continue to prove contentious in the early going of his leadership; his predecessor discarded recommended changes and Saunders is seen to back up that decision. Where it goes from here remains to be seen.

Hope your weekend was a good one and that the sunshine made up for a Raptors loss on Saturday. But, boy, it was exciting watching the final moments of their roaring comeback in Game One of the NBA Playoffs (a game they lost in OT to the Wizards) and the same come-from-behind drama in the Jays versus the Braves (on Saturday, anyway). A blistering homer in the 10th gave Toronto the win and having picture-in-picture on our TV was never so welcome.

Real life also has its own share of surprises, as I found out on Friday night.

Well, you surprised me yesterday. I was all ready to write a light, shorter journal today, but my journal about “living for today” really elicited some wonderful and touching responses. And on a Friday before a pleasant spring weekend, what could be more fitting?

We get a lot of inspirational quotes and sayings sprinkled in our daily social media. But today, one that stopped me in my tracks.

A funny thing happened to me yesterday as I was reminiscing about being a kid with a very different name, and posting a story about – of all things – a soft drink to our CHFI Facebook page.

So, a couple of things happened to me yesterday, both of which would have made me cringe if people who didn't know me – unlike you – were to read or hear about them. Fortunately, I know I'm safe here and can tell you just how deeply shallow I felt yesterday. And do you know what? I'm okay with it.

Well, wasn't that a day? Sunshine, warm weather, a 10-7 Blue Jays win as we get set for our home opener tonight...you couldn't ask for much more.

Hey – thanks first off for your wonderful feedback on Twitter, Facebook and via email to the video of Coco's first oatmeal. I just love the way his face explodes into a smile and then the bug eyes when he sees another spoonful. So heartwarming. But today, a journal of gratitude and why we never, ever take a healthy baby for granted.

Another rainy day here in Southern Ontario and, oh, it definitely feels like November. But if there's a bright side, it's that we're headed towards summer and not winter. I think we can all raise a soggy thumb to that. In just the few minutes it took me to get home yesterday, I saw two umbrellas in the process of being turned inside-out by the nasty, gusting winds.

Boy, there's a quote I could have used for yesterday's “baby powder blowback” journal. Still, it fits just fine for today.

So, did you catch last Thursday's airbag journal? If not, read it HERE please. If you did, were you a little more, let's say, “aware” of the airbags in your car? I got a lot of emails from readers with their eyes opened, but I'll share with you today a pair that opened mine from a woman named Donna. First this one:

Welcome in, and if you were fortunate as we were and took yesterday as one extra R & R day, I hope you had a good rest. I enjoyed some precious one-on-one time with my one and only, as Rob celebrated a birthday on Saturday. Yesterday my little sister hit a milestone (and she'd hit me with one if I told you here what it was); already this month I've sent out birthday cards to our friend Betty, son-in-law Phil, morning news dude Steve and, of course, Leslie. Was everybody “gettin' busy” in August, I wonder?

Here it is Easter Monday – and, yes, Mike and I have taken this morning show off, but I couldn't in good conscience just leave you without a journal! I am sharing with you the last instalment of your wonderful emails to me about smells and memories – and why I doubted I should.

And here we go. First long weekend of spring – at least today and tomorrow will feel like it – and the rest, well, we'll take it a day at a time. But today I want to share with you something that has been on my mind for a couple of weeks. It could save your life – or that of someone you love – and I KNOW if you've not done this potentially dangerous thing, someone in your family has...'cause we just do.

It's nice when a journal can bring people together. The thoughts, the memories, the proof that we all share so many common threads. Thanks to last week's “memories and smells” journal, I heard from my big sister in BC who wrote fondly of the smell of popcorn and, of course, perfume: “Yes, Shalimar and Mom. The two go together...I miss her, and those days. *sigh* Thanks for the retrospective.” My pleasure, Heather – love you, too.
