I'm really angry as I write this, but as the scales of my zodiac sign would indicate, I'm trying to do this looking at both sides. So, is it time for "zero tolerance" in blood alcohol levels for drivers? Or does that penalize those who have the one glass of wine with dinner - the ones who actually stick to what the guidelines are?
I know people who drink responsibly. But I also know people who get behind the wheel when they shouldn't, thinking they're fine - they've always done it and they can handle it.

I should have known. The journals that are hardest to write seem to be the ones that resonate the most and, yes, the one yesterday about "signs" was a tough one. I stuttered and stammered through the audio journal but thankfully Rob is a magician when it comes to editing! They'll think I'm nuts, I thought. (And I am in many ways, but maybe not about signs.)
I'm trying to keep up with emails, although I admit I still haven't gotten to the cutting and pasting I promised myself - and you - that I would for the emails going back to May of this year.

What a weekend! Sunshine, euphoric baseball celebrations (yay, Jays!) and just the best time away with a couple of dear women. And if you think Lauren missed my birthday, well, you'll just have to see all the proof we needed that she was there.

So here it is, Friday. And I vowed as I fired up the old weary laptop that, just to shake things up a bit, I wouldn't write about family or baseball. So...let's see if I can do it!
The weather...Canadians love to talk about the weather...and this weekend's looks like a lovely forecast. I hope you have plans that will get you out into the early Autumn sunshine.

On Monday I told you about Coco's first steps, the huge improbability of us having seen those steps in person, and how we felt Lauren was with us. Well, she's been with a lot of us the past few days, and we couldn't help but feel a little sign in the sky guided us back home.

By the time you read this, we'll have passed from summer into autumn. Of course this fall, there's a renewed sense of hope and excitement in Toronto among sports fans - including Leafs fans who've enjoyed three pre-season wins already - and even those who just love to watch the building emotions from the sidelines. What a September!
As I mentioned to you on Monday, Rob and I had a great time watching baseball with Phil and Coco on our weekend visit to Ottawa, and had a magical moment with him. (Click the photo below.)

When I get a chance to meet CHFI listeners, as I did last night at the Josh Groban concert that I'll tell you about here tomorrow, they usually ask one of two things (or both): "What time do you go to bed?" and "What's your typical day?" The answer may exhaust you. But here's how it ended.

We're home today from the first of many planned journeys to Ottawa to see our boys, and something happened Friday night that makes me almost positive that our daughter was there with us: Rob, Phil, Colin and me.

Today we're off to Ottawa - our first trip back since Lauren's memorial there on May 19th. Our hearts will be lighter this time, as we set our sights for Byward Market, where we'll check into a hotel room near Phil and Colin. Our weekend, we hope, will be spent pushing a stroller, watching some winning baseball and catching up with our two favourite guys. I promise some pictures and video next week.

There are a lot of things I don't get, and one of them is people who do the red carpet thing.
I'm not judging; if that's something you find fun and exciting (and a lot of people do) then events like the Toronto International Film Festival are like the Santa Claus Parade and New Year's Eve all rolled up in one glittery package and I bet it's terrific.

September 16th marks a special anniversary of a couple that I hold very close to my heart and it was a match made in radio heaven. Yes, we can thank 98.1 CHFI for this one!

It's the 15th - the midway point of September already and what a welcome return these mid-20s temperatures are! The past weekend's wet, blustery blast may have made for a nice opportunity to watch baseball by a glowing fire, but I'd much rather have the doors and windows open, savouring late summer's lovely offerings.

Do you remember the last time baseball mattered so much that you cross-checked your team's schedule with your own before making any plans? I guess that depends on your age and whether you cared then - or care now - but the decades since we last followed every Blue Jays' play, every out, every competitor's win or loss have brought some pretty amazing advances and I was reminded of that very thing at a lovely fundraising dinner on Saturday.

Today's one of those journals that might be more fun to listen to than to you may want to give the audio journal a go today, if you'd like.
9/11. We all remember where we were this 14 years ago on this day, just as Rob and I will always remember where we were 4 months ago this day. Our own 5/11, if you will: a day the world - our world - stopped turning. But this week for Phil and Coco, it's begun to turn again, and the compass has been pointed to Ottawa.

Today, something that has echoed through my mind about 100 times this week. It was a question, really: "How do single parents do this?"

Wednesday already; these short work weeks really do rock. And I'm sure if you have kids who started school yesterday, you're really just catching your breath yourself. I remember Lauren would come home almost breathless with excitement about the supplies we were going to have to go out and get that VERY minute (that is, those we hadn't already bought in the weeks leading up to the first day of school).

I almost don't know where to start. But perhaps wishing you a Happy New Year isn't completely out of line; that's how the first day back after Labour Day always feels. A chance to start fresh, to make new beginnings and shape different endings.

That quote is for YOU.
It's not many people who get to celebrate two anniversaries at the same job, but this Sunday we'll be doing just that. Quietly, with gratitude - oh, and a baby!

Jeez, I don't know what to write here some days. There are so few things on my mind: Lauren, missing Lauren, Phil, Colin, missing Colin, the job I love, the husband I love more
If I continue to write about these same things and people and feelings day after day after day, you're just not going to keep coming by for a visit. And believe it or not, one of the things that gives pleasure to Rob and me is seeing that people - you - want to come by. So...what to do?

Today I have to share with you a very touching email from a woman who also suffered a gut-wrenching loss in the very recent past. I'm not sharing it to make you sad; it's because it helps me to tell you where so much of our inspiration, simply to keep going, comes from.
