Happy Hallo-weekend! We'll be savouring a few quiet nights in front of a fire, before Sunday's big Celebration of Hope for Markham Stouffville Hospital and its treatment of cancers - see the 'What's Up' section of my home page if you're interested in last minute tickets. We're going to be honouring my work husband and his real wife, Mike and Debbie Cooper, for their going public in Debbie's battle against colon cancer. It's a day of inspiration, music, shopping, information and - most of all - fun. We'd love for you to join us.

On a rainy, windy, dreary day, all I could think about was chicken pot pie. Is salad anyone's comfort food?
It was a day for fasting and blood work and so it seemed from the moment that I awoke that I was hungry. What a thing the mind is, and the cruel jokes it plays; some mornings I'm so busy during the show that I don't get to whatever Rob has put in my little pink lunch box until maybe after 8 am. Usually it's yogurt, some berries, a bit of cereal like Weetabix and, of course, a couple of scoops of ground, sprouted chia and flax seeds. How's that for exciting!

A rainy, yucky day in the forecast and so, as it turns out, I just might have something to brighten your day. I know it will mine.
These days, I'm looking for anything to add a little sunshine. With shorter days and November weather on the way, I think we all are. So, as promised, some sweet little highlights from our trip to Ottawa. And with apologies if you've come for today's audio journal, here we go.

I know I promised some Ottawa updates today, but there's a timeliness to this journal that I couldn't pass up. Today on our show you're going to hear (in two parts, unless you want to click here to listen to the entire 10 minute interview) our chat with CTV anchor/reporter and veteran newsman Kevin Newman and his son, artistic ad boss and Marketing Magazine's "30 under 30" phenom Alex Newman.

I've used that quote before, but I just love it. So here it is again. And just like that, the magical Blue Jays' season (or, more accurately half-season) that saw a hat-trick in baseball, a bat flip worthy of highlight reels forever, a bringer of rain and a walker of parrots, plus a series of comebacks to make a nation's hearts soar, comes to a close.
That one last miracle we needed on Friday night wasn't in the cards. And now we prove that our lives aren't held together with the red stitches of a baseball. At least that's what Rob and I are going to do.

Welcome to Friday. I want to share a note I received the other day about a very clear case of the customer very obviously not being right. And I wonder what you or I would have done had we borne witness to it?

Breathe. We can breathe now. The ALCS is now at 3-2 in favour of KC, heading back to Kansas City. As soon as Tulo hit that bases-loaded double, bringing the score to 5-0 Toronto, we were allowed just a little hope that this series - this season - isn't over quite yet. The Jays have won every playoff game in which they've had 5 or more runs; when it's been 4 or fewer...well...things haven't ended well.

I'm disappointed today. And not entirely because of the Blue Jays' brutal performance, although, yes, it's hard to keep thinking "Come Together" when they fell apart so hard and so early yesterday. No, this has to do with the aftermath of Monday's election.

Today, for many, marks a new day. Whether you're a baseball fan or a proud or even nervous Canadian, that cliché really does fit. But in our CHFI Family, it's a sad day.
The news came to our morning show family in a text on Wednesday night from our technical producer, our brother-in-arms on the airwaves, Gord Rennie. His big brother, one of the four children - all boys - in his family, had died suddenly just that evening of a massive heart attack.

Well, here it is: another important day in our country's history. A day when, after months and months of promises both made and broken, we'll all find out just how much faith we have in the men on whom we've pinned our nation's hopes.
After a weekend of rallies and seeming acts of last-minute desperation, it's in our hands: it's up to us whether we're going to let our hopes rise before tonight's results come in, or just calmly await the outcome. We've done our part. Now it's up to them. All we can do is sit and watch.

Sorry if my voice is a little "less than" today. I'm still recovering from the big game two nights ago. But there's something I need to get off my chest today and, since it's from the heart, that seems physiologically appropriate: I haven't been entirely truthful with you the last while, and it's time to clear the air. For both our sakes.

Erin and Mike postgame

That was some baseball game! I don't even know where to start - it's all such a blur. From the word Tuesday that Mike and I were going to the fifth and final matchup of the American League Divisional Series, to the final strikeout from a pitcher who wasn't even born when the Jays won their second and last World Series, it was an electric day.

One game. All of this incredible baseball season's hopes come down to one game. And today (I can't believe this) I'm actually going to be there - with one of the special guys in my life: the one to whom I'm not related. This day has suddenly turned into one I'll remember forever...and in a good way, for a change.

I hope your Thanksgiving was filled with good food, family and/or friends you love and the stuff that memories are made of. Ours sure was - and we're not even talking baseball.

Well, the Jays didn't win game one of their first playoffs in 22 years, but there's always today. And Sunday. And as I often say, "We can do this." That's a motto I'll be calling on a lot this weekend.

Hey, welcome in. As you may have noticed, my journals this week have been on a "thankful" note. And not just because of the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend, but because it's a conscious effort to stave off the inevitable feelings of sadness that this Sunday is going to bring. So it helps - and today it's about the friends who've been here for Rob and for me.
Today I'm inspired by the birthday of a friend who's like a sister to me, even though I see her only a few times a year since she moved to London, Ontario to pursue a radio news career outside of Toronto.

Here we are: first full week of October and just a few days until we celebrate the harvest...or whomever decided we should eat turkey. At any rate, this week, every journal will have an underlying theme of gratitude. You ready?

What a wonderful, almost unbelievable time to be a baseball fan in this city! The drought is finally over and our boys in blue are in the post season. It's been an incredible, indelible ride so far and what happens next? We wait. We bite our nails. And for many, we think about those we wish were cheering on the Jays with us.

Wow! Talk about a chilling reminder from a listener about the importance of making sure that baby's car seat is installed properly - a lesson we might have learned the hard way.
I was inundated with emails yesterday supporting my "zero tolerance" take on having a drink and getting behind the wheel. If there were people who think, wait a minute, I can handle a glass of wine - I'm a grown-up, a stance that a great many people really do believe, I didn't hear from them.
