Two more morning radio shows with my friend and partner Mike Cooper - today and tomorrow. And then we adjust the sails, facing forward to the future. But I'll think about that tomorrow. And while all week I've been paying tribute through photos and stories to Mike Cooper as he gets set to wrap up a truly incredible radio career, I can't leave out the guys who've helped us both to shine over the past ten years together at CHFI.
Starting in order of seniority and alphabetical order:
Thanks for your enthusiastic feedback and tweets about yesterday's journal and all of its Cooper pictures. Yes, it's a true labour of love - and a collaboration with Rob, for sure - as we sort through hundreds of photos from our time with Mike and his illustrious 35 years before our paths crossed. Today, some more memories...this time, on the road. Travels with my Mike.
Welcome in - as I share with you this week a few pictures and behind-the-scenes stories of my years with the man who's given us all so much joy over the decades: Mike Cooper.
As you know by now, Mike's leaving morning radio as of this Friday to face a future hand-in-hand with his wife Deborah. A long and happy future, we hope.
Just one more day until Rob and I get into the car and point it towards Ottawa to see Phil and our sweet Colin in their new house; first visit since before Christmas, I might add. I love that you're writing and even tweeting about when I'm going to have pictures, video and stories of our little man. Believe me, no one is more anxious than I am. And one of the things for which we'll be grateful is that our stay will be in Phil's spare bedroom!
Today: why you can't spell "hell" without three of the letters in "hotel".
Okay - I did it. Yesterday, while Molly sat getting a little winter cleanup on her coat, I sat in a theatre and watched - no, experienced - a Star Wars movie for the very first time.
When we look back at the first couple of weeks of this year, there have been far too many "(gasp) What?!" moments coming out of the world of entertainment. Yesterday, another - the youngest by two years - emerged.
"I can't believe you did a radio show feeling like this." Those were Rob's words yesterday as he went through a milder version of the same stomach illness that slammed me for 24 hours from Thursday to Friday afternoon.
And just like that, it's over! Our final "Erin & Mike on the Beach" is in the books.
It went so quickly and, thankfully, so smoothly - thanks to our promotions genius Daisy Yiu, producer on site Gord Rennie and our engineering mastermind Mark Baglole, as well as "The General" Ian MacArthur and our engineering team there, too. Phew.
Well, I don't know...maybe everything in moderation? That's usually the best advice!
We've done it - first show under our belts. Shhhhhh...it's usually the Tuesday show (or our second of the week) that makes us a little nervous: seems when we are paid a visit by the foul-up fairy (we call her something a little less genteel) it's always on a Tuesday. But today, our second show is on a Thursday. So we'll just see.
Well, it's another two-for kinda day for you here - whee! Since today's journal is actually video, there's a completely different audio journal above (just click on the play button). It's an interview we did with winners Denise and Levi about the lifelong friendship they made many years back on another CHFI listener trip (yes, it's that random; people win more than once). You'll love it.
It's one of those two-for-Tuesday journals: the written and the audio versions are different, because the written one here has the elements of video today. And since video doesn't quite work for the audio journal, I'll tell you a few stories there, instead. How's that sound? Click the play button above to find out.
Friday's show seemed like a dream - today's sleep-in is just a bit of a dream-come-true. You see, as long as we've been doing this, Mike and I, we've done five shows a week when we've gone away on a CHFI Trip a Day Giveaway. This time, though, we've been invited to just stay and play for two of those days, and we'll have a show for you on Wednesday.
This journal was delayed in uploading from its usual early morning arrival because the radio show comes first. When you read it, you'll understand.
At 6:20 am we made an announcement on 98.1 CHFI that I've honestly been dreading, but one that I know is just the best thing for everyone involved and so...on we go.
Today's journal is delayed until 6:20 this morning, at which time we'll be making an important announcement on 98.1 CHFI. You won't want to miss it.
I hope you'll come on back here after that.
First off, a very Happy Christmas to you if you're celebrating today, as many millions around the world are. I hated to see them unwinding the lights from the evergreens on the lawn of the ManuLife Insurance building on Bloor Street Tuesday. After all, with traffic down to one lane just a little bit east of there, what else do people have to look at? Honestly.
We saw the workers while on our way to The Bay, Rob and I, to do some winter bargain hunting. And that brings me to today's journal.
I guess I have a bit of a theme going this week, and perhaps that's what a new year is all about. But I promised you another breathtaking sign from nature today, and one that weaves its way nicely into the choice that I've made for myself in 2016. And it couldn't have been a clearer message from above - literally - had there been an airplane writing words in the sky.
