As you read this, we're in Nevada, where the forecast today is for sunshine and 18. We're in a small city called Henderson on the outskirts of Las Vegas. We like the slower pace, the simpler casinos and more penny and nickel games.

Well, what a roller coaster ride that weekend was - especially Saturday! It's hard to believe what we are witnessing south of the border and its worldwide repercussions, but on the other hand, as many of his supporters have pointed out, these things that are happening are exactly what Trump campaigned on. But man, it was amazing to see protesters out making their voices heard for a second straight weekend. Remember his supporters calling those against Trump "snowflakes"? Watch out for the avalanche.

Well, that kind of puts things in perspective, doesn't it? Ah, Friday...or as we call it...another day of waiting for deliveries.

I spent a lot of time on this worn out little MacBook Air yesterday reading and answering comments and emails about mental health: my story, your stories. Thank you for sharing; so very many of us (far more than the 1 in 5 that's so often cited, I am guessing) have dealt with depression or anxiety, either firsthand or in the lives of those we love. Of course, the first step is talking about it and not just on one day of the year, but every day. Today's a good day too, don't you think?

By now, you're aware that today is Bell Let's Talk Day: a day to raise money and awareness in the fight against mental illness. Now in its eighth year, through monetizing texts and calls, this program has raised nearly 80 million dollars to support its four pillars: fighting the stigma, improving access to care, supporting research and workplace mental health.

Welcome in and thanks for making some time in your day to spend a bit here. I wanted to tell you that next week I'll be sharing some pictures (I get so many requests) but for now, thank you if you're one of those journal visitors each day who's clicking on LISTEN and giving the audio version a go! (And if you're not, go ahead and try; just click on the headphone icon above. You'll like the music and Rob's production touches. It's a nice collaborative process!)

Welcome to Monday. Well, what a weekend that was! From the lows of Friday to the highs of Saturday, there were "all the feels" as the kids say. (They still say that, right?)

Deep breath.
I've had a couple of months to try to figure out what to write today. I was going to chicken out and post scenic pictures; if you happen to like what is happening in Washington, DC today, please go and look at some nice shots of babies and smiles and laughter and love at my Facebook page. This one may not be for you.

A tweet was sent my way on Tuesday from Debbie and it was about a story on CTV news. In it, we learned that hospitals across Canada are gradually moving more and more toward a policy allowing 24/7 visiting hours, in the belief that it's in the best interests of the patient. This from a group called the Canadian Foundation for Health Care Improvement, or CFHI. Yes, CFHI. Sounds a bit like my favourite radio station.

It's fitting that today's journal is about dogs because 19 years ago today our little black and white Shih-Poo Pepper was born. No bigger than a peanut when he arrived, this little guy with the black raccoon mask grew to become a huge part of our family, which he left a year-and-a-half ago. It's a coincidence that I wanted to share this story with you today but I'll dedicate it to Pepper.

Something happened the other day that is just so "me" I couldn't help but laugh and then make a mental note to tell you about it.

Well, it's done. All of the boxes and the second load of our possessions have come to our new place here in BC. While I'd be lying (and wildly optimistic) if I told you we're even through three-quarters of the boxes, we're pecking away at them and finding shelf and cupboard space for possessions from two homes as we whittle our lives down to one.

Friday the 13th. Today we are feeling very lucky - and grateful - to have gotten our second half of the move completed yesterday. Our condo possessions - clothes mostly, some kitchen stuff and just a few pieces of furniture, since we left the condo furnished - arrived yesterday.

Well, the book proposal is in! I sent it yesterday (in the wrong order because, well, ME...) to the publisher and to our literary agent. We got it straightened around and now the agent is going to look it over, then off it goes to the publisher and we see what happens from there. But it was very important that the outline, at least, get put "out there" on the 11th.

Boy, did I strike a nerve with you yesterday - in a good way - about the adjustment that Rob and I are having a bit of a struggle with as we begin this new life together 24/7 without our regular outside interests.
Many people wrote emails or posted on my new Facebook page (thank you) and I'd like to share a few of your notes, along with our own reaction to them. Enjoy taking a peek into someone else's life with me, won't you?

Welcome in, and thanks for coming by. Let's see...just a quick Facebook update and I can tell you that if you're on the site that has the River Seine at the top, a bridge and the Louvre, well, that site is closing down in a few days. So please follow the link to the new Erin Davis Facebook site and we'll meet you there.
Sorry if you're not on Facebook, I'm sure this is getting a little monotonous but I really want to make sure I don't lose contact with people who want to stay in touch.

Happy Monday.
And...we're back. If you were expecting my journals to start today (because that's what I said back in December when I thought maybe I'd wait until January 9th, since that's when the new morning radio show with Mo and Darren started up on CHFI) well, you've missed a week already.
I don't know just how I'll keep up these journals every day, but now that I've spread the word via Facebook that they're here, I guess I have to, right?

We've come to the end of our first week here together and I hope you're enjoying these journals as much as I am writing them and Rob is recording and editing them.

So, I tried something over the holidays that I think was a good thing, and I'm hoping you'll agree. Now that I can't be in touch with people through a daily radio show, I thought I'd give Facebook more of a go.

Hope your week is going well and that you're looking ahead to a good year. I remember when the first thing I did at the turn of a calendar was write the new year on an entire book of cheques. Now it seems we write so few cheques that it hardly seems necessary. At least, that's my finding.
Speaking of finding...I told you yesterday that I'd share with you a few signs that our daughter has not only come along with us (her beautiful blackbird urn sits atop our piano) but has reminded us that she's with us in spirit, too.

Happy New Year and thanks so much for coming by. Rob tells me that I used that quote last year, which means either I'm in a rut, I really believe in it or I'm still trying to get it right! Perhaps a bit of all three?
Yes, my first journal, not only of 2017, but of a new life. It's been just two-and-a-half weeks since my joyful, tearful farewell show at Casa Loma and, to be honest, when people write and ask how I'm enjoying this new life, I tell them that it just feels like a long Christmas vacation.
