The past 24 hours or so have been filled with post-Oscar talk including, of course, the moment none of us watching (or who saw it later in clips or on the PVR) will ever forget. Faye Dunaway reading what was on that card: La La Land. The folks who hold on to the envelopes with the fervor of the Colonel and his secret recipe are investigating. But it made me think back to my worst onstage moment.

Now, the last thing I want to do is make enemies here, so I won't even mention how amazing it was to sit down with dinner at 5:30 to watch the Oscars (and, of course, the red carpet beforehand). My punishment for all of this glee is that I didn't even get to talk about it this morning. So, I guess we're even.
My choice for Best Picture wasn't exactly HD and the dialogue may not have been scintillating, but it's the one we had yesterday morning between Ottawa and North Saanich, BC. I don't know what took us so long, but nearly three months since this pic was taken...

Well, congratulations. Our winter switch is complete: as we enjoyed blue skies and 5C yesterday, you enjoyed late spring weather and record temperatures. It's true. We picked a very freaky winter to move to the west coast! I hope you enjoyed it, though. After those weeks of bleak, seemingly sunless skies, it surely did everyone a world of good.

Hope you're doing well. Tomorrow, I'll wrap up the week with a sweet video of something I never thought I'd get a chance to capture and share with you, but I did, so I will!
For today: travel challenges with our girl Molly. As you may know, we are pet parents to a little 12-year-old Lhasa Chin named Molly.

I'm not much of a shopper. For example, when it comes to clothes, I tend to find one store that I really like, get to know the people there, let them get to know me, and then I'm loyal forever. (That's how I feel about The One and Only in Aurora. How I miss those ladies!) When it comes to buying things other than clothes, I'll generally hit The Bay or shop online. Again, it's all about the comfort zone.

I've lots to share with you this week - a road trip will do that - but first, what's in my heart. Namely, this guy.

As we head into a long weekend - well, as you do - a couple of thoughts on family and Family Day. Cheers!

Boy, is that the truth! With a long weekend on the way for most Canadians, I thought today we could talk books: mine, and a few that are well worth downloading or,  in my case, leafing through. At least one of them I want to keep going back to, and I find a good old-fashioned paper version is most conducive to that.

So, we know that this is February 15th but, besides being the day you should get chocolate on sale and flowers back at their regular prices, it's a day to celebrate one of the most glorious sights this traveller can behold: the Canadian flag.

Was looking for a photo yesterday and stumbled upon this picture of Lauren: our funny Valentine (2010).

Happy Valentine's Day. As promised, today the story from a Facebook visitor of her own encounter with a romance scam. It's a chilling story, but don't think it's all bad on this day about love and hearts; you'll like the twists and the ending! Julie writes:

Welcome in. The timing of today's and tomorrow's journals is purely coincidental with Valentine's Day coming up, but if they help one person - if not you, then your daughter, your best friend, your granddaughter or your sister (and yes, even the men in your life, too) - to avoid being a victim of a romance scam, then this is worth all of our time!

We had a nice "date" night this week, heading out to see a movie at our new favourite theatre (the one with the recliners).

We'll take a break from our Vegas adventures today and we'll have a video Mike and I shot for you later in the week.
Today, what every Canadian talks about this time of year: weather! I've been following the freezing rain warnings that were happening in Toronto and apparently some of you have been following the weather out here today. Like Sue, who kindly sent this joke letter:

Who travels on Super Bowl Sunday? We do, as for the first time in maybe forever, I haven't had to talk about the game (or more accurately the halftime show) the next day.

Welcome to Friday. Now that the groundhog has done his thing and people are back to observing Super Bowl predictions instead, I thought I'd wrap up this week with a few more pictures for you.

Well, here it is Groundhog Day. Not that we observe it here on Vancouver Island, where there are snowdrops in blossom already and I have a rhododendron in the backyard whose buds are showing signs of pink. (It's annoying, I know. I'll try to keep these updates to a minimum!) Apparently, rather than groundhogs here, we have marmots. They're an endangered alpine species that typically sleep until the end of May or early June.

Hello again from Henderson, Nevada. That's where Rob and I are now. We have prepared these journals for you while we're away, but I'll have a few stories and pictures to share with you here next week...I hope! I didn't want to get you out of the habit of coming by, since we're going to keep doing this together for a while. So that's why I'm not taking a break from journalling just yet. This is too much fun, right?
But right now, one of Rob's crowning achievements: as a radio producer, as my partner in everything and as my favourite handyman.
