Ah, her U key is back, you're thinking! Actually, I'm writing this on the ferry, using Rob's laptop. My U problem needs a bigger fix, apparently.
I was so lucky to truly savour the beauty of Canada's natural glory for a few hours Wednesday as we made the crossing from Vancouver Island over to mainland BC. Hey, BC Ferries – how did you know?

I need to put YOU in my journal today. Actually, it's U. So work with me here and let's play "meet Erin's keyboard."
What a strange and crious thing is happening to my MacBook Pro, bt how fortnate it is that we are in Vancouver right now and hopeflly are in the midst of getting it rectified.

I want to start today by wishing Carol, a friend I met through grief who also came on our cruise this past spring, good luck! In honour of her son Jamie, whom she and her husband Rod lost, Carol is going to do the CN Tower Edge Walk. She's got more nerve than I do and she is making sure she lives large in Jamie's memory on his birthday. Like I said, good luck, friend!

Hey there - hope your week's going well so far. It's been a week since Mike Cooper and I shared an hour with you via webinar. I wanted to update you on cabin availabilities and so on, just to keep this top of mind in case you're considering joining us for a magical week (plus land tours, which I think Rob and I are going to do, and maybe Mike, too) river cruising from Switzerland to the Netherlands. As our host Gerry Koolhof of New Wave Travel put it, with ocean cruising you go to a country, but with river cruising you go through a country.

Welcome to these final days of June. What a treat it is to share summer with you!
It's funny, having mentioned Bambi here last Friday, that today's journal is a glorious look out the window, in words (and pictures). Deer, one in bad shape, bunnies and, instead of skunks, of which we have none, a few captivating raccoons have filled the last few days with adventure and appreciation.

First of all, happy summer! I hope that this season brings to you all that you've awaited during the winter and spring months. Of course, for some parts of the country, this season got an early start; for others, it's yet to kick into high gear. But my hopes for you are lots of great memory-making. My best memories are in the hazy glazed backdrop of summer.
This is also a day to kick off a huge movie weekend with the return of a film franchise that has been a part of our little family's life almost as surely as if it was planned to run alongside our history.

Looking for something to do this weekend, or perhaps in weeks to come? I wanted to share with you some thoughts on a movie Rob and I saw last week - before I tell you tomorrow about a film coming out that we will never be able to watch and why.

Summer arrives this Friday and, with it, the prospect of a little more outdoor entertaining. Last weekend, Rob and I were invited to a Rotary Club "friendship dinner," wherein we meet up at a Rotary member's house for dinner, bringing one of the courses with us. I chose appetizers.
Last year I showed you here my adventures in appies, with the tiny caprese salads: cherry tomatoes cut in half like a little hamburger bun, a slice of bocconcini cheese inside, a bit of basil and a drop of thick, syrupy balsamic vinegar.

Happy 77th birthday to Sir Paul McCartney. This is one of my all-time favourite moments and memories, captured by someone who recognized Rob and me at the concert Sir Paul put on in Toronto almost a decade ago. On the left, Rob. On the right, Paul. The song: "Hey Jude." Rob would like the caption to read: "The World's Two Best Bass Players, Together!" Um, okay.

Welcome to a brand new week - the final days of spring before summer's arrival on Friday - and I hope that your Father's Day was a pleasant one. Ours was quiet: Rob opened (and loved) a card that Colin filled out for him and then chatted briefly with his grandson later. We went to a movie with friends. As I say, a quiet day. Or just the opposite of what today is going to be in Toronto!

Are we home yet? Is the NBA championship "home" yet? I wrote almost all of this journal during our 90 minute ferry ride at the end of our journey from Kelowna on the mainland to our island home yesterday. Here we go.
I'll tell you, last evening was the aural equivalent of having my eyes just slightly crossed to make sense of one of those 3D posters that used to be everywhere a few decades ago. Except, instead of trying not to focus so we could see, we were endeavouring not to hear so we could later learn a basketball score!

And it's good-bye today to Kelowna, this city of 132,000 in the BC interior that counts among that number, two of my siblings and my dad. While the city itself is about 50% larger than Victoria, the Kelowna metropolitan area claims a population of around 200,000, making it the third-largest metro area in BC behind Vancouver and Victoria.

Hello from gorgeous Kelowna, BC, where Rob and I will stay another night before heading back to our island home. You know, it's funny, just from conversations I had last week, how many people think that Vancouver and Vancouver Island are one and the same; Vancouver being that giant city on the mainland, while Vancouver Island is...well, you know, an island. And that's the place we call home in the city of North Saanich (like sandwich without the D and W). But enough about home - let's be here now!

After arriving safely, and just as the Raptors game ended (One point! Really?), in Kelowna last night, Rob and I were reunited after 10 days apart! That's a long stretch for us. We bunked down in the guest suite at Dad's seniors' residence and look forward to two days here, departing on Thursday to make it back to the Sidney, BC area in time for our semi-monthly Rotary meeting.

Ahhhhhh...what a weekend! I don't even know where to start except at the beginning of it: flying into Ottawa on Thursday night and spending three amazing days with a certain little man and his parents.

IS IT FRIDAY YET? Ha! I'm not complaining, but, oh, it's been a week! One great, busy, wonderful week filled with hugs, laughter, tears and new friends. And, oh, yes, OLD FRIENDS. The best kind.
Like the friends we dined with on Wednesday before the Indigo event in rainy Kitchener. At a restaurant near the bookstore, we were joined by Rogers chief meteorologist Jill Taylor (left), my pal Lisa Brandt and, on the far right, afternoon host on CHYM in Kitchener, Adele Newton.

I'm going to pause in the midst of this week, this frenetic, joyous, travel-filled week, to look at a picture much bigger than the ones I've shared with you over the past few days.
Tomorrow I'll be back to bringing you special moments of meeting with people and sharing stories of love and friendship, of common bonds and new connections.

What a day, what a day. I'm writing to you between shows: we had a 2 pm performance of our Reclaiming Joy program at Markham Theatre yesterday. It went so well and I am so grateful.
This is me before the show and during rehearsal - feeling very zen and ready to go.

And here we are, back in Ontario! I guess I mean "we" in the royal sense, I suppose, as this time I'm traveling without Robbie. Wish me luck. As I mentioned last Friday, we may have a journal blip or two, but I'm sure it'll go well (gulp)!
